Without this place, I would not have been able to go to prom. I was in a very sticky situation and got my prom dress the night before prom, and they were able to help me out and understand my situation and had my dress perfectly for prom for a great price. The ladies are so sweet, I truly could not have done it without them.
They are so personable and always willing to help. The prices can’t be beat. Quality of merchandise and costumes is top notch.

Competitor’s Closet is one of the best specialty store. The building has a charming classic look from the outside because of its design, ample parking for customers, beautiful show window and the best part— the sign is easy to see from the street. Inside, the store is loaded with specialty products for dancers and figure skaters. And if you can’t find what you need, ask Dianne, the owner. She’s absolutely fabulous and helpful!!!! She hand made what we need for my son in such short time and OMG she’s a wonder. Highly recommended for services, skills, personality and items to buy from the store.

A Great Experience
I would definitely recommend this store to anyone who is in the market for dancewear, costumes, shoes, accessories, etc. If they don’t have what you are looking for or your size, they will order it. The service is the best around. I have two daughters who are in dance and I have been going to Competitors Closet for years. Check it out—you won’t be disappointed.

Great place
i was told to go to to this store by a friend, i was so impressed with the service & knowledge that the staff has. they knew exactly what i needed for the studio my girls attend. they took their time & helped us pick out clothing, they made us feel like we were the only ones there. i have purchased online before, prices are cheaper, but after i had to return what i did not want, it ended up costing me the same & i could not see what i was buying & sizing was off. they have a card for shoes, tights & leotards, that you get discounts, & there is a coupon in entertainment book for 20% off. i won’t get anywhere else.

Personable and Patient
I have been a customer of the store for five years and the service has been great! Shopping with children is NOT always an easy adventure, particularly when sizing shoes, skirts and othe apparel! It’s a comfortable shopping environment due to the personal service and level of patience store employees have with the kids!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED-EXCELLENT SERVICE
I would highly recommend this store to anyone who has a child in dance. I have been going there for years for my two daughters. It is not a discount type store- there are other places with cheaper dance items but the quality of Competitors Closet’s merchandise and the care the staff gives each customer is so worth it! They have made both my daughters feel like princesses every time we go in there!

“Your store saved the day for my daughter and me this past weekend! I would especially like to tell you about Diane, who is an angel on earth. We’d been searching for several hours for fabric for a replacement jazz outfit (for my eight-year-old daughter, Faith) for the costume that we had somehow “misplaced.” I drove from fabric store to fabric store and visited many clothing stores in the hopes of somehow locating that very unusual brown and gold fabric.
Nothing at all appeared that resembled Fiona’s costume fabric. At 2:00 P.M. Friday, I drove to your store to purchase shorts and a leotard so that I could piece together something that might remotely resemble the real costume. However, I do not own a workable sewing machine, do not sew well, and that I was in a frantic state of mind by now. Any sewing job I might have done would have been deemed a total disaster. Moreover, Mrs. McAuliffe, Faith’s dance instructor and the owner of Rhode Island Ballet Arts Academy, is an experienced and very
exacting individual with the highest standards imaginable. Faith would not have been able to dance if her costume did not match the others.
When I explained my dire situation to Diane, she listened carefully and offered some practical ideas for locating matching fabric. At her suggestion, I drove to a large Pawtucket fabric mill, and still found nothing to match Faith’s outfit. Returning, near tears, to your store at around 6:00 P.M., I was amazed and relieved beyond words when Diane offered to MAKE FAITH’S COSTUME HERSELF! Keep in mind that Diane did not leave work until 8:00 P.M. and the costume was needed the next morning at 9:00 A.M.
Diane was an answer to our prayers. She devoted her entire evening to searching stores for matching fabric and dying fabric of her own to match ours. She located an almost identical fabric to to the original costume. The costume she created for Faith was identical in every way to Faith’s original costume. It was expertly sewn and fit Faith perfectly. When we arrived at Competitors Closet the next morning at 9:10 A.M., there was Diane, who had arrived one hour before her work shift began, to meet us at the store and give us the costume for which she
hardly charged us any labor after all the work she’d done and the many of her own supplies she’d donated to us.
We were practically speechless when we saw the costume that Diane had miraculously sewn for Faith. It was so professional and flawless. Moreover, Diane realized that the costume could use a few more crystal beads. She offered to have us follow her to her beautiful home and gave us two bags of crystals and glue so that we could add additional sparkles to the costume. She showed us the incredible gardens that her husband designed, and we realized that this was no ordinary couple. Blessed with warmth, humanity, and talent, Diane and her husband, who is a fantastic landscaper and gardner, are truly ambassadors of good will and beauty in our community and state.
Last night’s Dance Recital at East Greenwich High School was one of the best, by far. Faith danced her African “Woka Woka” number with a great deal of poise and confidence, and wearing a very beautiful brown and crystal outfit whose creation, we realize, was nothing short of a miracle. Faith’s costume, and the goodness of Diane, was the talk of the entire ballet company last evening. No one could believe the story of the costume that so closely resembled the original and that was made on such short notice. Mrs. McAuliffe was quite impressed that someone could create such a beautiful costume with so little notice and time, and remarked that was an incredible match with the other African costumes in that dance number.
We will never forget Diane’s kindness, generosity, goodness of sprit, and help to us in our time of need. Less than one year ago, my wonderful husband passed away unexpectedly. Rearing two young daughters as a single mother has been a lonely and challenging juggling act since then, but a friend shared with me something that stays in my mind during tough times: “When loved ones die, they send angels on earth to continue their good works and to let us know that they understand and are watching us from above.” Surely Diane was our angel on earth, and we are so grateful to her. We will remember to “pay it forward” to another stranger or friend in need whom we encounter.
Thank you so very much for your amazing customer service. If you would like to use any portion of this testimony on your site, please feel free to do so. Good deeds such as those I’ve described should not go unnoticed. THANK YOU, DIANE!”
